There are many ways to reduce plastic in your garden. Plastic mulch, the film or sheet of plastic that acts as a soil barrier to keep in moisture and reduce weeds is made from Low-density polyethylene (LDPE). This plastic material breaks up into smaller and smaller pieces, contaminating soil, as highlighted in Matt Simon's book, "A Poison Like No Other”.
Cardboard, paper or burlap sacks are all great alternatives. Check out more ideas like replacing your plastic watering can with a galvanized steel one.
