đź“ŁCalling Out Climate Greenwashing at the COPOUT27 Protest in NYCđź—˝

November 17, 2022

Beyond Plastics Greater Boston joined forces with our affiliate, WasteNot/350NYC to protest the outrageous hypocrisy of the UN's decision to allow Coca-Cola—one of the world's top corporate plastic polluters-to serve as a major sponsor of the international climate change summit. They organized a march that kicked off at the UN headquarters and walked down 42nd Street, stopping outside and going inside Grand Central Station and finished at the NY Public Library on 5th Ave.

Highlights of this successful event included the wonderfully eye-catching signs and banner created by Eileen Ryan and her team at Beyond Plastics Greater Boston, the "new, improved" lyrics Eileen penned for that treacly Coke commercial tune, distributing 250 postcards to interested passers by, and an impromptu dance with a Salvation Army volunteer playing great Latin music. Watch this short video by Steve Schaub for the full experience.

The impact did not end there, either. Eileen's excellent letter to the editor was published in the Boston Globe and the protest received great coverage in the NYC News Service. Bravo, crew!!!đź‘Ź
