2021 Plastic Policies Roundup

EPR, Deposits and Reuse, Oh My!

While plastics policy work slowed down in 2020 due to the pandemic, 2021 is shaping up to be a big year. City Halls and State Houses across the country have already introduced dozens of plastics and packaging related bills. With Democrats in control of Congress, there’s also renewed interest in the federal Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act (BFFPPA).

On Thursday, February 25, UPSTREAM invites you to a conversation with Yinka Bode-George from the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators, Judith Enck from Beyond Plastic, and Miriam Gordon from UPSTREAM to learn about the types of plastics and packaging-related bills being introduced; what's in the federal BFFPPA; how extended producer responsibility for packaging and deposit-return systems are shaping up; and how reuse policy is moving forward at the city and state level – even during the pandemic.

Date: Thursday, February 25
Start Time: 10:00 AM PST / 1:00 PM EST

This program will run for one hour, including 30 minutes of audience Q&A. If you want to continue the discussions, there is also an optional 30 minute “speed networking” event at the end.

This event is free, open to the public, and will be recorded and shared with all registrants (whether you can join us live or not). Space is limited.
