East Palestine Disaster Is A Symptom Of The Plastic Pollution Crisis
Five of the train cars that derailed in East Palestine this winter were carrying vinyl chloride, a very toxic chemical used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic. This disaster was not a one-off accident but, rather, a symptom of our larger plastic pollution crisis.
